How To Help The Homeless

Homeless Statistics

There are a number of ways that you can help us to transform lives and end homelessness. Most people who are homeless just need a hand up in order to get their lives back on track. Some just need a roof over their head, regular meals and support to link in with health and social services. Others need retraining, help to find a job or to reconnect with family. Still others need help to address addictions in a caring and supportive environment. The following outlines how to help the homeless through partnering with Sheltered by Grace.

Regular Monthly Donations

Many charities struggle to get regular funding. Regular monthly donations really make a big difference for Sheltered by Grace and help us to deliver our regular services to clients as well as programs we run such as our fortnightly music therapy sessions.

Sheltered by Grace runs on a model that is not government funded. Our clients pay for their board and lodgings from their Centrelink payments, and your regular donating really helps us to keep our costs to them minimal, ensuring that they can continue to get the help they need to change their lives.

If you have a passion to help people transform their lives, and feel led to donate regularly to Sheltered by Grace, it would be greatly appreciated, and allow us to budget for both short and long term goals to develop the premises and better support our clients.

Any donations over $2 to Sheltered by Grace are tax deductible in Australia and receipts will be emailed to you.

Volunteer Work

Sheltered by Grace wouldn’t be able to help people change their lives without our volunteers. We have a number of volunteers who help us in areas such as: fundraising; working in our op shop; admin work for our office; case workers to assist with client case management; house parents who help with food preparation and cleaning; driving clients to appointments; handyman and grounds maintenance; night shift; etc.

We even take s1tudent volunteers and people who might like to volunteer in groups. If you have a passion to help the homeless or have a creative idea on how you might like to help, we’d love to hear from you!

In many cases, when our clients come to us, they have very little in way of clothing or personal effects. From items kindly donated, we make sure that they are given personal toiletries and clothing items. Additional donated items are sold through our Op Shop, The Shelter Shop and the funds raised goes back to the Shelter to provide additional resources for clients.

If you have good quality items that may be useful for either our clients or for sale in The Shelter Shop, please either complete the form letting us know what items you would like to donate, or drop the items in to either the Shelter at 157 Old Logan Village Rd Waterford, QLD 4133 or The Shelter Shop directly 53 York St, Beenleigh, QLD 4207.

Corporate Sponsorship

Best charity to donate to

There are many benefits of corporate giving, including but not limited to a tax deductible receipt.

But there are many other benefits including improving the morale of your company and making you an employer of choice! Some employees really look closely at the type of company they apply to and many would rather work for a business or organization that demonstrates their community spirit and ability to walk the talk and contribute time, goods and money to the communities in which they operate.

Leave a Legacy

If you have a passion to leave the world in a better way and really make a difference to the lives of the homeless and less fortunate, then you may like to consider leaving a legacy to Sheltered by Grace. A bequest of money would really help us to develop our building project and house more people, impacting more lives.

If you would like to leave a legacy, please contact us to see how we can work together to end homelessness.

If your business has time, money or services to donate to Sheltered by Grace, then your business can be featured on Our Partners Page and we can promote you through our Social Media links.

Building Project

We are currently turning away many more people than we can accommodate. We would love to be able to accommodate couples, families and single people with children who have been the victims of domestic violence, but at the moment we do not have the capacity.

We have approved plans to expand our current Waterford site, adding more bedrooms and dedicated wings for people suffering from domestic violence and addictions as well as a two storey training facility and caretakers accommodation.

If you can help with building materials, trade labour or money to expand our project, we would love to hear from you.
